Vidunenahawula Website (National Institute of Fundamental Studies)

Some of you may be having a glass of milk in the morning. If you look at your glass of milk you will perceive its color as white. Why is milk white in color? The reason why milk is white in color is due to its composition. About 87% of milk is water while the 13% is made from proteins and other fats. The main protein contained in cow’s milk is casein. Casein protein and other certain fats reflect wide ranges of wavelength in visible lights. As all 7 colors are reflected it makes milk to appear white.
