A Life in Science –Stephen Hawking

Stephen William Hawking was an English theoretical physicist, Cosmologist, and author who at the time
of his death was director of research at the Centre for Theoretical Cosmology at the University Of
Cambridge 1979 and 2009.

Hawking was born on 8th January 1942 which was the date Galileo Galili died. He was born into a family
of physicists. He began his life journey with many goals at the University of Cambridge. However, no
longer, Hawking was diagnosed with a nerve disease called ALS that has the ability decrease a
person’s moving and speaking ability over time when he was only 21. Doctors too told him he would not
live past his early 20s. He does not ignore the doctor’s words and continues his journey with a
communicated device through a speech-generating device.


His first discovery is about the black hole mechanism. His contribution to science lies in the so-called
Theory of Everything was a biographical film released in 2014. However, this great man passed
away at the age of 76 at his home in Cambridge on 14 March 2018, which was the day that Albert Einstein was born.

His ashes were interviewed in the abbey’s nave between the graves of Sir Isaac Newton and Charles
Darwin. This was a famous quote of his life. We also face our challenges bravely and do not give up on
any challenge we face…
