Have you seen curling sport in winter Olympics?

If you have watched Winter Olympics you may have come across a sport named curling. In this team sport a player throws a 19kg graphite stone on the ice towards a bullseye. The strange part of this sports is that the players from that team take brooms and sweep the ice as the curling ball approaches. Do you know why the sweepers brush the ice? When the sweepers brush the ice surface vigorously the high pressure generated by the sweep heats the ice making the surface ice layer to melt. This creates a thin layer of water which acts as lubricant. So, the friction generated on the curling ball is less and the curling rock travels further.
