Do you know the reason why fresh eggs float in water and rotten eggs sink in water?
Vidunenahawula Website (National Institute of Fundamental Studies)
In a fresh egg there are egg yolk, egg white and other components inside the shell. These components have enough mass that the density of the egg is greater than the density of water. So a fresh egg would sink. But when an egg starts to become rotten decomposition occurs. Decomposition creates gases while decomposing the solid/liquid part. But eggs have porous. So, some of the gases escape from the eggshell and is lost to its atmosphere. When adequate amount of gases is lost the density of the egg becomes less than that of water. So, a rotten egg float.
