When going on swimming, most of you would use goggles with the intention of protecting your eyes from water and other chemical in pools. Did you know that even birds have a built-in goggle? It is called nictitating membrane. Like humans, birds have an upper and lower outer eyelid. But beneath the outer eyelid the nictitating membrane is found. The nictitating membrane is largely transparent, and it helps keep the eye moist and clean while guarding it from wind, dust, and hazards. Also, birds aren’t the only animals that have this nictitating membrane. Reptiles and some mammals too have this nature’s in-built goggle.
