The technologies and innovations being developed through research conducted in search of practical usage of science determine, the direction of the world. At present, the global economy is also driven by this process. Through the inventions and developments carried out during various eras, starting with human civilization, this transformable change has been made in each of the fields. From the pastoral era to the agricultural era, a large change was experienced with the Industrial Revolution that happened in the 1780s, centralized in Europe. The future path of the number of fields exposed to potential changes with the second industrial revolution, which started at the end of the 19th century, and the third industrial revolution, which started in the 1960s of the 20th century. New technologies like artificial intelligence and virtual technology that have emerged at present through the fourth industrial revolution that happened in the past several decades, mainly centered in America and Japan, are over comming the world. Accordingly, a number of technology trends evolved during various periods from the end of the 20th century. The countries that grabbed these technical trends correctly, reached developed status very easily. Hence, the gap between developed and developing countries has been identified as a technical gap.

Celebration of the world science day

“Prosperity through Scientific Empowerment” is the theme for this year’s National Science Day.

In such context, the research and innovation sector of the Ministry of Education have organized the National Science Exposition – 2023 for the celebration of world Science Day falls on November 10, aiming at popularizing science, technology, and research knowledge among the society. This exhibition is conducted under the guidance of the Hon. Minister of Education, Dr. Susil  Premajayantha, with the participation of a number of public and private sector. This exhibition is to be held on the 8th, 9th, and 10th of November, centered on the premises at the National Natural Museum and the surrounding area. The Ministry expects to take advantage of this exhibition to initiate the proposed National Science Center, which is identified as a very significant component in the effort to convert Sri Lanka into a developed country.

10 Major Zones

This exhibition that is to be held in parallel with this has been planed under 10 priority fields, adopting various themes: from the big bang to the origin of human beings, mysteries of the human body to healthy life, natural phenomena to scientific laws, disaster prevention and reduction to the harmonious road, traditional technology to innovation enlightenment, industrial revolution to modern science, frontier science and technology, Science ABC, Innovation celebration, current achievements and career opportunities in science, and outdoor exhibitions. In addition to the above 10 technical fields based on modern technologies, this exhibition comprises a number of programme including programmes for enhancing the scientific knowledge of school children and programmes relevant to fields of science, technology, and innovation conducted with the partnership of the Ministry of Education.

Also, this exhibition consists of a variety of components, including vocational training opportunities, an entrepreneurship platform, a job market, trade stalls, a public recreational area mobile services, and many others.
