Did you know that Mars is known as the Red Planet because of iron oxide (like rust) in its soil? And despite being known as the Red Planet, sunsets on Mars is actually blue. The fine dust in the Martian atmosphere absorbs blue light and scatters the warmer colors. At the same time, dust particles in the sun’s direction scatter blue light forward to create a cool, bluish colour near the setting sun.
