When you eat something spicy you would feel that your tongue is on fire. Did you know that spiciness is not a taste? Spiciness is in fact a form of pain sensation. Capsaicin is one of the chemical that causes spiciness. When you are eating spicy foods the capsaicin present in the food binds with pain receptors and temperature receptors in our tongue. Therefore when you eat spicy foods the body detects it as pain. As the temperature receptors too become stimulated you get a burning sensation in your mouth.
